What's PRB all about?

Microsoft's People-Ready Business (PRB) initiative, which launches in December 2006 and runs throughout 2007, focuses on real-life business issues, empowering staff and driving success through 'people power' - powerful, easy to use technology is simply the enabler.

Bringing together Microsoft Exchange, Vista and Office 2007 in a single programme, these technology investments underpin the PRB vision: working with proven partners like Lynx to deliver an unrivalled productivity solution platform. PRB represents one of Microsoft's biggest investments in the IT marketplace for a decade.

What does it mean to you?

'People Ready' is a philosophy of business success, based on the idea that organisations are best able to grow and succeed when they recognise that people are their most important asset - and empower them with the right tools and technologies to drive the business forward.

What is a people-ready business?

- A people-ready business knows people are its most important asset
- A people-ready business believes people - more than processes, systems, machines, location or outside consultants - are the ultimate drivers of business success
- A people-ready business invests in and creates a culture around a shared value system - an organisational infrastructure that empowers and enables people to drive the business forward
- It gives people the support, resources, and mandate they need to act intuitively, respond decisively and invent brilliantly

When individuals realise their potential, your organisation realises its potential. That realisation is what separates a "people-ready" business from an ordinary one.

Who can benefit?

Ultimately, your entire organisation benefits by empowering individuals: PRB is designed to deliver practical benefits and measurable ROI to both individuals and organisations.

In the UK, we're working with large enterprises and medium-sized businesses in areas ranging from retail, manufacturing and financial services to communications and the public sector.

We're talking to senior executives at CEO, CFO, MD, FD, Sales Director and Marketing Director level, together with senior IT people such as CIO, CTO, COO and IT Directors. In terms of front-line delivery, key stakeholders include IT Managers in areas ranging from administration, services, network and operations to web, database and messaging.

The benefits to your people

- Faster access to data so they can find what they need and waste less time looking
- Better business process to improve service and manage costs
- Monitor business performance so they have better control of the business
- Work with teams to collaborate and communicate more effectively - regardless of location
- Staff will help the company compete successfully in today's challenging business climate

The benefits to the IT department

- Improved and intuitive user experience (Exchange for IT administration and Outlook for the users)
- Integration across the office suite of products (links in with Office Communications Server & Office Communicator to deliver presence, instant messaging, web video conferencing etc)
- Moving mobility to the next level (voice - email - voicemail)
- Huge progress on securing the desktop (standardising and customising the desktop image for corporate roll-out)
- Desktop search
- Inbuilt security and performance tools with Windows Defender (anti-virus, anti-spyware etc)
- Enables IT manager to lower costs and increase security, improves the organisation's ability to comply with reporting and regulatory requirements

Which technologies are involved?

The PRB approach is based around Microsoft Exchange, Vista and Office 2007. Key technologies include:

- Exchange Server 2007 - new capabilities in Exchange deliver the advanced protection your organisation requires, the anywhere access to e-mail, voice mail, calendars and contacts your employees need, and the operational efficiency your IT people demand.

- Vista 2007 - Vista empowers people to work more efficiently, helps teams collaborate and communicate more effectively regardless of location, enables IT managers to lower costs and increase security, and improves your organisation's ability to comply with reporting and regulatory requirements.

- Office 2007 - simplicity at your fingertips: the 2007 Microsoft Office system builds on tools you're already familiar with to deliver a complete set of desktop and server software that will streamline how your organisation and your people work.

- SharePoint 2007 - SharePoint Server 2007 connects people, processes and information: enhanced capabilities cover collaboration, portals, enterprise search, enterprise content management, business process and forms, and business intelligence.
